Position Title: Library Assistant/Clerk
Summary of job responsibilities
Performs a wide variety of general library work in technical and/or public services to assist patrons with daily operational needs of the library, such as copy cataloging, processing, circulation and shelving library materials; performs related duties as assigned.

Job duties
Provide service at the circulation desk including:
-Prepares library for opening
-Check materials in and out using computer terminal
-Greet and direct patrons to various locations or locate materials
-Answer the phone
-Register new patrons by assisting in library card application form
-Register patrons on library computer system
-Use computer terminal to provide information to the public
-Collect and record fines and fees;
-Offer basic technical assistance
-Assist in navigating the Internet
-Help patrons use library resources
-Troubleshoot computer problems
-Request materials through MeLCat
-Participate in staff meetings to discuss and resolve problems, discuss ideas for improvement, and keep updated on library plans and activities
-Maintain library public area in clean and orderly fashion
-Maintaining displays, cleaning computer terminals and other general cleaning tasks
-Performs other related duties as required
Special working conditions
Daily work is performed while sitting at a desk, computer terminal or while standing at a counter for extended periods of time. Physical exertion is required to lift office supplies and library materials. Often, the employee must move shelves and retrieve library materials from upstairs. Sufficient vision is essential to permit the employee to read, sort and shelve library materials, maintain patron information, and cataloging. Clear speech and hearing are necessary for answering the phone.
